MEET THE TEAM

We are delighted to have been trading for more than 20 years and with over 200 years’ worth of experience in surveying.

Our knowledgeable and experienced team are able to assist with the handling and management of claims in all territories, appreciated by our Principals who especially value the technical quality of our services, prompt reaction and loss prevention advice we are able to offer for all aspects of Marine Cargo, Goods in Transit surveys and investigations.

 

UK – London


Iain Williamson

Iain Williamson is our new General Manager of the UK & Ireland. This new role reflects the increased volume of surveys and investigations undertaken in these regions by CWHJI.

Iain has been surveying since 2005 and has extensive experience including high value loss investigations, theft analysis, commodity surveys, fruit surveys, temperature analysis of frozen goods in transit, etc., cementing his knowledge with complementing courses at Cambridge Refrigeration Technology.

Iain is a longstanding Committee Member of the British Association of Cargo Surveyors and is looking forward to passing on his experience to the next generation of surveyors.

John Williamson

John Williamson joined E L Johnson’s Sons & Mowat as a junior trainee Surveyor in November 1974 and has over 40 years’ experience as a Cargo Surveyor. John was one of the last Surveyors to carry out surveys within the Royal Docks in the Port of London and has experienced the remarkable shift of movement of cargoes of all types (either dry or temperature controlled) from vessels’ holds to containers.

John has carried out surveys in 34 countries and specialises in soft commodities and temperature-controlled cargo. He co-ordinates survey requirements overseas and throughout Africa via own and Associate Offices. He is a board Director of the International Refrigerated Transportation Association and represents the Federation of Cocoa Commerce on superintendence and supervision and technical aspects as well as giving educational courses for both the Federation of Cocoa Commerce and The British Coffee Association.

Harry Jaques

Harry Jaques joined the company in 2012, and has now accumulated more than 11 years’ experience as a Cargo Surveyor.

Harry has gained extensive experience and managed a diverse range of surveys across a wide variety of cargoes, including high value theft and loss investigations, Fruits and Vegetables of all types, Pharmaceuticals, Soft Commodities, Refrigerated and Frozen Cargoes, as well as bespoke Machinery and Scientific Equipment.

Harry was awarded his British Association of Cargo Surveyors (BACS) Membership Certificate in 2019, and became a BACS Committee Member in 2023.

Steven Dowding

Steve began his marine career in February 1998 as a Claims handler working closely with Lloyds brokers in relation to London market requirements.  He handled, investigated, and adjusted marine cargo claims, goods in transit, freight liability, warehouse keepers and similar.   Part of his role was to attend meetings, mediations and pursue recovery action.

In August 2010 Steve moved on to become a Claims Manager.  Inclusive of his previous role, he analysed risk in client and supplier contracts and provided training awareness seminars.

November 2013 saw Steve become a Marine Cargo Surveyor.  He has surveyed and investigated numerous losses of a varying nature from a 1917 steam engine, Ports & Terminals, Romania rollover thefts to high net worth claims with quantums into the millions.  His secondary role involved liaison with Insurers, Brokers, Syndicates, etc., and co-ordinating investigations on a global basis,  ensuring that SLA’s / KPI’s were followed.

Steve has further been involved in seminars given to the London market and provided marine training to Brokers and Insurers.  In addition, he has provided input into business tenders, rates, SLA’s / KPI’s, Broker binder schemes and similar.

UK – Liverpool


Steven Mcwilliam

Steven is approaching 40 years of experience in the Marine Insurance Industry, commencing in 1984 with a leading UK based Insurer, originally as an Underwriter before joining the Claims Team. In 1988 he joined a market leading UK Loss Adjusting practice specialising in Marine Cargo and Freight Liability, including Warehouse Keepers and Risk Assessment/Control.

Steven has been surveying with the Group since 2006 and undertakes a wide variety of surveys on behalf of Cargo Underwriters as well as surveys and enquiries on behalf of Transit Liability Insurers, again including a wide variety of interests.

Luke Lacy

Following service in the Royal Navy and then with another UK Marine survey company Luke joined the CWH Johnsons International team in 2021 and is based at the Liverpool Office. He is an experienced cargo and transit surveyor and has dealt with a wide variety of goods and commodities.

Bekki Whitehead

Bekki has almost 25 years’ experience of the survey and salvage business with E L Johnson’s Sons & Mowat Ltd.

She has been employed as the Secretary/Personal Assistant to the Surveyors / Directors in their Liverpool office and is involved with all secretarial duties relating to the office and survey requirements, enjoying her work environment and the variety it brings day to day.

Sandra Mcwilliam

Administration Assistant, CWH JOHNSONS INTERNATIONAL

Sandra has 28 years’ experience working with a leading UK based Insurer, originally as a Personal Lines Underwriter, but primarily for 21 years as a Commercial Insurance Underwriter.

Sandra joined the Group as an Administration Assistant in 2008. Since joining the Group, Sandra has gained extensive knowledge and experience working within the Surveys’ team, providing administration support.

John Jackson

Managing Director/PDG, CWH JOHNSONS INTERNATIONAL

John joined Clark Woodward and Hungate Company in 1979 and had the good fortune to be trained by Bob Hungate and Trevor Woodward. He was made an equity partner at Clark Woodward Hungate in 1992. He was awarded his BACS certificate in 1994 and was then responsible for opening and running the CWH UK Dover office with effect from 1996. He moved to Lille in 2003 and opened CWH Europe SARL in October 2006.

He has vast experience within both the UK and continental Europe in respect of marine cargo and goods in transit surveys and investigations for all commodities. He also undertakes risk management studies, recoveries and has recently started to become more involved in arbitration.

Roland Robertson

Surveyor / Expert, CWH JOHNSONS INTERNATIONAL

Roland Robertson has over 20 years’ experience as a cargo surveyor, working in Africa and Europe. He has considerable experience of all types of surveys and investigations. For many years, he worked in Ghana where he was appointed Branch Manager of a leading marine survey company in 1992. Later, in 2014, he was appointed as Manager for another marine survey company, still in Ghana, to develop their activities in the soft commodities trade (rice, sugar, cocoa).

In the meantime, Roland moved to study and work in Southampton as an Associate Lecturer. He taught at the Warsash Maritime Academy in Southampton, United Kingdom. He graduated from Southampton Solent University with BSc (Hons) in Maritime Business with Shipping Law in 2005, MSc in International Maritime Studies with Law in 2007 (Southampton Solent University), Postgraduate Certificate in Research Management and an MPhil in International Law in 2013 (Nottingham Trent University) in the United Kingdom.

He joined CWH Europe in March 2018. He is based in our London Office although being a fluent French speaker he will also be working, when required, with our survey teams in Lille and Marseille.

Simon Wentworth

Surveyor/Expert, CWH JOHNSONS INTERNATIONAL

Simon Wentworth joined the company in October 2014. He is a graduate of ISEFAC Lille with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management. Simon was born in South Africa but has lived in France for the majority of his life and consequently is fully bilingual.

A keen sportsman, Simon has represented France A in hockey and continues to play to a high level with his local club.

Simon has gained experience across  a multitude of surveys throughout France and Europe since joining. He is now an experienced member of the team. In August 2021, Simon passed his examination as a drone pilot.

Natalea Sys

Natalea forms part of the Administration support team since 2007 and works very closely with John Jackson.

Emilie is responsible for Administrative and Financial aspects.

Lionel Gaspari

Lionel Gaspari was promoted in March 2023 to the position of General Manager- EMEA region.

Lionel has been surveying for 15 years and has extensive experience in all types of cargo surveys and losses including risk management studies, project cargo, loading and discharge surveys, etc.

Lionel works in equal measures between Europe and Africa and increasingly in the Middle East. He has an international business degree, is Lloyds certified and fully bilingual- French and English.

A graduate of the international marketing business school, Lionel started his career in the shipping industry in 2006 as logistician for a major importer of fruit and perishable products in the port of Marseille.

In 2008 he became a Marine Cargo Surveyor for a survey company based in Marseille From 2010 to 2016 he was Manager of a leading marine survey company specialising in West African countries such as Ghana, Ivory-Coast, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Senegal, Congo, Angola etc. He was in charge of survey coordination, employment, training, claims handling and trade development.

Marie-Laure Mirrione

General Manager, CWH JOHNSONS INTERNATIONAL

Marie-Laure has over 30 years’ experience and has always worked in environments in the Shipping and Marine Insurance industry, commencing with an editor of a shipping guide on French and African ports. Marie-Laure then moved to work with a P&I Club correspondent as Marketing Director. Keen to always maintain skills at the best level, she graduated from Kedge Business School (Euromed Marseille) in 2003, with an MBA.

Marie-Laure has considerable experience of the Marine Insurance and of the African Continent and was appointed in 2005 Managing Director of a leading marine survey company. Over the years, she has constantly trained in Marine Claims Handling and Recoveries.

Marie-Laure brings with her a wealth of marine and GIT expertise, both cargo and Hull and Machinery, and operates equally in both mainland Europe and the African Continent. Amongst other things, she is involved in Surveys, Claims Handling and Recoveries.

Sylvain Aymard

Surveyor/Expert, CWH JOHNSONS INTERNATIONAL

Sylvain started his career in the fruit & vegetable industry in 2000 working for a major South African fruit exporter in the quality control department. Then in 2007, he joined the quality control team at the Port of Marseille/Fos fruit terminal inspecting a wide range of imported perishable products. Initially trained in chemistry, he graduated in 2013 in Quality, Security and the Environment and joined the marine insurance industry. He was employed by a well-known survey & loss adjusting firm based in Marseille, also acting as agent for a network of surveyors in Africa. Over the years, he has undertaken surveys on behalf of cargo interests, and represented the interests of carriers and shipowners in France and throughout Europe.

Loïc Ambrosino

Loïc obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and started his carrier in 2008 as a Marine Cargo Surveyor in a French surveying company based in Marseille.

After several years in this company and moving to Australia, Loïc came back to France and in 2015 joined a leading marine survey company specialising in West African countries and acted as an agent for a network of surveyors in Africa.

In the same year, he obtained the Lloyd’s certification.

Loïc has over 13 years surveying experience, is an experienced cargo and transit surveyor and has dealt with a wide variety of goods and commodities.

Over the years, he has undertaken surveys on behalf of cargo interests and represented the interests of carriers and shipowners in France and throughout the world.

Ben Goh Hoon Chuan

Ben has over 30 years experience in managing and leading the marine department for various international adjusting and surveying practices. With in-depth knowledge and technical expertise and have travelled extensively in the Asia region to handle high and complex marine related with various commodities, steel products, machinery damage, loading/discharging/stowage, marine/transit, fraud/hijack investigations, pre-risk surveys, General Average and liability claims.

Twinnie Lai

After graduating in 2006, Twinnie had a brief spell in office administration before joining the group in the summer of 2007.

By demonstrating an aptitude for personal organisation and problem-solving, Twinnie’s role has significantly expanded through successive promotions to reflect her growing skill set to include client account management and claims team supervisory and survey management responsibilities.

Twinnie’s expertise includes handling high-volume and complex marine cargo claims; freight forwarder liability claims; stock throughput and local risk management assessments; managing survey operations and co-ordinating casualty and catastrophic events investigations.

Twinnie is an effective written and oral communicator in Cantonese, Mandarin and English
